God's Control of the Earth

Is the universe “fixed” in its ways? Are there a set of governing “rules” that it runs on? The real question is has science discovered the laws that the universe obeys? If so, then the worlds are “fixed”. I disagree! Science has only found patterns in the Presence of God. Psalm 37:23 says a good mans steps are “ordered by the LORD”. This means they are His (God) plans and His ways. Not every man has the same path or plan. God is Immutable (never changes) but we all have a path that He lays out for us and each one is unique. There is only one way of salvation, and only one way to get to the Father, that is through Jesus alone. But I walk a path that God has set for me.

Job 38:4-13 says

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?

Tell Me, if you have understanding.

 Who determined its measurements?

Surely you know!

Or who stretched the [a]line upon it?

To what were its foundations fastened?

Or who laid its cornerstone,

 When the morning stars sang together,

And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

 “Or who shut in the sea with doors,

When it burst forth and issued from the womb;

 When I made the clouds its garment,

And thick darkness its swaddling band;

 When I fixed My limit for it,

And set bars and doors;

 When I said,

‘This far you may come, but no farther,

And here your proud waves must stop!’

 “Have you commanded the morning since your days began,

And caused the dawn to know its place,

 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth,

And the wicked be shaken out of it?

We recognize this as a sort of “rebuke” that Job received of God. God making the point that Job is the created and God is the Creator. But we also see in this passage that God vs 4 - “Laid the foundation”, this is active and intentional. He also vs 8 – Shut in the sea with doors. He also said of the sea in verse 11 “this far you may come, but no farther.” God told the sea where its limits are. Now we see every day and for years past that the sea does not always come to the same point but it changes with the tide and the seasons. Over decades and millennia it has varied. This is because God did not draw a line but commands the sea (Mark 4:41 “who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”)

God is not removed from His creation but is actively working in it every second. We have nothing to fear because God IS in control, He IS active, He knows and “Commands” every step and way. You might even say “Our God Reigns”!!
