Dear Sheep (and Dustin)
I am reading in the Psalms for my personal devotions lately. My attentions is continually drawn to the repeated truth from the Psalms about “wisdom” and “fools”. I want to take a moment to discuss what the scriptures are referring to and why.
Psalm 92:5-7 “O LORD, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep. A senseless man does not know Nor does a fool understand this. When the wicked spring up like grass, And when all the workers of iniquity flourish. It is that they may be destroyed forever.”
In this passage “A senseless man” is defined as brutish, stupid, or foolish. This is a man who does not listen, does not learn, nor does he care about truth and laws. The word “fool” here means stupid fellow, dullard, simpleton, or arrogant one. What is common here is that this person does not know nor does he care about truth or laws. He is self-sufficient and unchanged by higher “powers” whether man or God. This Psalm says that this man will “spring up like grass” meaning quickly and everywhere but that he will be destroyed forever.
Two things to learn here, this person is given two attributes. 1. He is short lived, he may appear to grow and florist but only for a short time. Remember we are talking about this life PLUS eternity. He is going to meet a greater power and will have to answer to that greater power (remember that this is temporal and Eternal, so an officer of the law, a judge, or even a boss). 2. This persons foolishness is “terminal”. He will die like all of us, he will have and end on this earth like all of us. We are all eternal beings but we are true residence of Eternity and not this current Earth. This “fool” has a terminal meeting with his Maker.
Verse 13 says “Those who are planted in the house of the LORD Shall flourish in the courts of our God.” Wisdom is to acknowledge our inferiority and HIS Superiority. To fall under His leadership and Love. To do as He directs and to live for His Glory. This person shall live for Eternity, just like the fool, but unlike the fool he will live with God and not separate.
Please think about your relationship with this world, with all the “information” you are given. Filter it through God’s Word and Humble yourself in His presence.
Love y’all
